Interior renovation | "Festungshof" Coburg
Customised energy-efficient refurbishment
The interior of the former hotel was extensively replastered. The new owners now benefit from beautiful, modern surfaces that fulfil the high standards of appearance as well as the requirements in terms of energy efficiency and environmental protection.
From hotel to home
The "Festungshof" in Coburg - with a fantastic view of the Veste and the town - has been the site of various building projects over the centuries: In the 14th century, a hermitage was located there. After its destruction during the Thirty Years' War, a manor house followed, which in turn was demolished in 1909 in favour of a hotel. The "Hotel Festungshof" was built in 1910 in the historicist style and operated for over a century, until March 2012. It was sold in 2012 and became private property.
With the conversion to a residential building, the building was given a new use, meaning that special structural requirements and listed building regulations had to be taken into account during the renovation: The façade design and interior design, including window connections and wood panelling, had to be preserved. The building also had to be refurbished in terms of energy efficiency.
Interior insulation with insulating plaster
As part of the remodelling of the interior for private use, all existing layers of plaster on the exterior walls were removed and replaced with thermal insulation plaster. By applying maxit ip 55 therm in thicknesses of 8 - 12 cm, it was possible to achieve a significant improvement in the energy efficiency of the exterior walls. The use of an insulating plaster was particularly necessary in the area of the natural stone walls and window surrounds in order to minimise thermal bridges. maxit san Vorspritz was used on the natural stone; smooth, non-absorbent substrates were pre-plastered.
During the drying time of several weeks required by the high plaster thickness of maxit ip 55 therm, the interior walls of the building were plastered with maxit ip 380 purcalc, a natural lime plaster. The exterior walls were coated with maxit ip 315 purcalc once the drying time was over.
As the new owners of the “Festungshof” wanted a smoothed texture for the interior areas, once the felt plaster had dried out well, the newly developed maxit airless 6035 lime filler was applied using an airless spraying device.
